EMPTY
BOWLS
(www.emptybowls.net or
www.emptybowls.ca)
is an international project to fight hunger. Empty Bowls events
take place annually in many cities around the world from San Francisco
USA to Helsinki Finland to Montreal Quebec and now in Dundas Ontario.
The basic idea for Empty Bowls is simple. Potters make and donate
ceramic soup bowls. Guests choose and buy a soup bowl for $25, as
a reminder that there are always Empty Bowls in the world. All proceeds
from the sale of these soup bowls will be donated to Hamilton Food
Share, our charity of choice. |

Hamilton Food Share
(www.hamiltonfoodshare.org)
is a unique, one of a kind food bank in Hamilton, an umbrella organization
that raises and distributes donated food to emergency food programs
throughout the city. Since 1990 Hamilton Food Share has raised and
distributed approximately 17 million pounds of product within our
community. |
In our community currently there are 18,600 people accessing food banks every month and 8,157 are children (44%). Others that use
emergency food services include physically challenged people, senior
citizens and many people who have lost their jobs and found other employment
at minimum wage.
All food collected goes to assist emergency food programs
(food banks and hot meal lines) in our own community including: the
Good Shepherd Centres, Mission Services of Hamilton, Neighbour to Neighbour,
St. Matthew’s House, Wesley Urban Ministries, Living Rock, Welcome
Inn and the Salvation Army. We’ve also extended our assistance
to two breakfast programs, various women’s’ shelters, men’s
hostels and youth centers.
Remember… Every dollar donated to Hamilton Food Share raises $5.00 worth of food!
