A five day workshop Monday July 5 to Friday July 9, 2010 Mohawk College Saltfleet Campus, Hamilton,
Ontario. Workshop fees: $367.50 for members and $389.50 for non members. Twenty participants only.
Information on the workshop contact info@hamiltonpotters.ca.
In this workshop we will construct a full-scale architectural piece. This construction will
demonstrate the principle techniques Stonehaus has developed over the last 32 years of building architectural
ceramics. The construction demonstration will be reinforced with an extensive slide show covering historic
architectural ceramics, as well as the evolution of architectural techniques at Stonehaus. We will learn how
to make a fireplace, an entrance facade, murals, columns and more. Peter King will show slides of various
projects that have been completed and commissioned of his work and work at different stages of construction.
The piece to be made in the workshop will be planed and then constructed with a clay body that allows
continuous building and assembling without having to wait for the clay to reach the leather hard state. After
construction, while still wet and up to five inches thick, the piece is cut into more manageable sections. The
piece is then dried and single fired. It will take the entire workshop to construct the piece, but Peter King
will walk the class through the entire process.
